Kenya – the country and it’s people

It is my impression that Kenya has some of the best drivers in the world. We make use of taxis and buses to reach our destinations. Although there are traffic lights, these seem to be ignored, and we still need to get used to this reality! To ride in a taxi in Nairobi’s inner city on a Friday night is an experience on it’s own. At times, it appears that 6 cars are using two lanes at the same time. And yet, we have never felt that our lives are in danger. Kenyan drivers are champions!

Regarding accommodation, Mayfield Guesthouse is the best! One really feels at home at there. The hospitality of the staff is wonderful. The guesthouse is popular amongst missionaries and as long as I visit Nairobi, I hope to be able to stay at the Mayfield.

Although our ministry entered East Africa through Tanzania, Kenya will always have a special place in out hearts. While our late daughter Tanya, was critically ill, the people of Kenya continually prayed for her healing. And they did not stop praying, until the day she passed away.

Our first visit to Kenya took place in 1998 when we presented an AFMIN On10 school at the Rift Valley for Science and Technology in Nakuru. I ministered on the topic of Praise and Worship as a lifestyle. Since then, we have presented seminars for church leaders in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu and Mombasa. In January 2007, Alta and I resigned from our position as fulltime pastors in a church in Cape Town, South Africa, so as to give our full attention to training for church leaders. We work under the umbrella of African Ministries Network Leadership Institute (AFMIN), whose vision it is to see a trained pastor in every church in Africa.
